Often times, examining the literal meaning of Chinese characters gives one valuable insights into the ways Chinese people think about certain subjects. This is true for the idea of 'Landscape', which is composed of the characters for mountain and water. Quite literally we see Chinese landscape painting depicting harmony between mountains and water. Understanding and focusing on depicting this harmony grounds our painting in the rich history and culture of China.
